ME

I am, a career communication professional. My area of qualification, work and interest has been communication. I have worked in journalism, advertising, communication consulting, issue management, interpersonal communication and emerging markets (multicultural) communication for all my in-harness professional life. I have worked in India (and out of India in the markets of Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), North America and rather fleetingly in the UK; lately, I added two African markets – Kenya and Zambia – to my list.

By academic qualification I am a liberal arts (honors) graduate and possess two advanced degrees, in literature and communication, from India and the US respectively.

I lead workshops in most interpersonal communication-related subjects for corporates and educational institutions, unequally though. For corporates, my work involves increasing effectiveness in the business workplace by enhancing the efficacy of communication and therefore incorporates conflict resolution, team and leadership communication, sales communication and presentation skills. Among corporates, in Africa, India, and Nepal my clients include: Asian Development Bank, Aviva Insurance, British Council, Fore Solutions, Genesis Hospital, Golchha Organization (Bajaj Motors and Samsung), GreyWater Technologies, Indo-Zambia Bank, Kayako Software, Kia Motors, Lumbini Bank, MaxPro, Microsoft, Prisma Advertising and others.

With educational institutions my work has centered mostly on leading workshops in communication skills for students and faculty on topics like Interview Skills, Group Discussion and Presentation Skills; I lead long-term programs for Thapar University, Patiala and the Balaji Institute of Modern Management, Pune and short-term ones for the Fore Business School, New Delhi and the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon training over a thousand students every year.

Smarth bases his highly interactive and rigorous workshops on his understanding of corporate and interpersonal communications with commonsensical application in daily life. His deep interest in classical Indian music, the nature of the human mind, Indic Studies and the environment only bolsters this effort. He continues to hike, sing, read, practise archery, appreciate fine wine in the hope that he never sobers down.
